The investor that considers investing in this kind of operation regards certain securities’ prices as relatively high and as tending to decrease in the short-term due to conditions that can be of a macro, micro, fundamental, technical or world market nature.
This investor will obtain certain securities on loan and will sell them on the market. After the price of said securities has gone down, the investor will re-buy them at the lower price, obtaining an increase in capital.
The lender will receive compensation as agreed at the beginning of the transaction for the initial loan of the securities. The lender is guaranteed for the duration of the loan of the securities for an amount that is proportionally greater than the securities.
